Psychologist, Social Worker (Domestic Violence)

Purpose of positionThe Position of Domestic Violence Psychologist or Social Worker is one of two such positions in the new Specialist Domestic Violence Service (SDFVS). The SDFVS is provided to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of Palm Island.This position has been created to ameliorate the effects of domestic or family violence or abuse (DFV) on Palm Island. Its primary duty is to provide:Counselling and psychological services to victims of domestic or family violenceServices to perpetrators that focus on accountability and the needs of families as well as culturally appropriate responses to change the attitudes and behaviours of people using violence to harm othersDesign and facilitate a Male Behaviour Change Program employing current best practice principlesConduct stakeholder and community awareness and activities relating to the programSupport and coordinate key stakeholder and communicate awareness relating to reforms, programs and services, networks, development of community driven responses to address DFVLead a cross-agency integrated DFV response that prioritises victim safetySELECTION CRITERIAQualifications: It is expected that applicants will hold suitable advanced tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or a related field.Mandatory:Palm Island Community Company employees must be eligible to hold a Working with Children (Blue) card or equivalent through professional registering bodyHighly Desirable:Membership of the Australian Psychological Society or membership of the Australian Association of Social WorkersTo be considered for appointment an applicant must be able to satisfy the following criteria, through a combination of knowledge, skills or experience.Key: Demonstrated relevant experience delivering psychological or counselling services to victims and users of DFVDemonstrated experience working within an Indigenous non-profit organizationAbility to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait IslanderEffective interpersonal skills with experience and ability to communicate, support and work effectively with clientsDemonstrated high level problem-solving and analytical skills.Demonstrated capacity to supervise a team, including providing regular feedback, participating in performance reviews and performance management.Experience in recording and reporting on service user data with various client management software programsExperience in developing, implementing and evaluating clinical interventions and community based programs. Desirable:        Understanding of mandatory reporting obligationsExperience in working with other government and non-government organisations such as QLD Department of Child Safety, Probation and Parole, Legal Aid and QPS.Experience in providing supervision to other less experienced staff.Experience in evaluating psychological services and programsRemuneration:Attractive Remuneration package includes super plus salary packaging depending on experience.How to applyApplications close Friday 30th August 2019 COB.
